Please enjoy my new single When Doves Cry, a take on my favorite Prince track. This cover tune is intended to pay tribute to The Man in Purple & celebrate his music, life, genius, & philanthropy.
This song is yours free of charge BUT if you would like to pay, proceeds from this download will be directed to Little Kids Rock, a music education charity that Prince himself donated to while he was still with us.
You can download this cover song, and donate to Little Kids Rock if you wish, at my Bandcamp page.

My last show of 2016 was at the Aster Cafe, and my first show of 2017 will be right next door at the Aster River Room.
I'll be opening for Adam Levy, then playing in his band for a rare performance of his solo release, Naubinway. Honeydogs fans, this is a great chance to hear Adam's solo project.
This will be a very special show, marking the 5th anniversary of the suicide of Adam's son, Daniel. Naubinway addresses the pain of that event. The music is highly emotionally charged, and performances are rare, but these songs are also exceedingly beautiful. It's a privilege to play this music with Adam. I hope you'll come out to hear it!

For the past couple of years it's been my great pleasure to play a show around the holidays at the Oak Center General Store. If you've never been to this unique, wonderful venue, you owe it to yourself to experience its charm. It's only 60-90 minutes outside the metro, but it's like a trip back in time to a 19th century general store, a homey, hospitable place with its music venue above a store stocked with organic foods and a multitude other interesting items. Tickets are $5-15 according to your ability to pay (on the honor system). I love playing this place, and would love to see you there! It's the perfect place to put you in a good space for the holidays!
Please purchase tickets in advance, by mail or email, to ensure you don't drive all the way down to a full house!

This interview on American Musical Supply's "Catch a Break" series is exciting on multiple levels.
First, it's one of the more in-depth and personal interviews Eric and I have done, and additionally includes stuff music gearheads will like. So check it out if you've ever been jrae-curious!
Second, they call it the "Catch a Break" series for a reason. AMS is a major music equipment supplier, so it helps get my name out there. Thank you, AMS!

Craving an intimate night of music & storytelling with two of the Twin Cities' finest? Do you also happen to enjoy crafty drinks, delicious eats, and bowling? If you like all of those things, then this is just TOO perfect...
Join Jillian Rae & Sarah Morris at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater on Saturday, September 10th. They will play you their favorite songs, give you the down low on their own songs, and heck, you might even get a personal high five from them by the end of the night.
Sarah Morris is a singer, songwriter, and country phenom from Minnesota's metro area. She recently released a new album called, "Ordinary Things." It's lovely. Sarah is lovely. Be excited to see Sarah perform.
Jillian Rae is a singer, songwriter, and violin phenom from Minnesota's Iron Range. She trekked down to the Big City years ago to play music & is now happily considered a Minneapolis Transplant. Jillian has an album out called "Heartbeat" and a few singles. She also has a new EP on the way. Sources say it sounds amazing. Jillian is amazing. Be excited to see Jillian perform.

I love the cartoon drama of the poster for this show, but you've gotta admit it does somehow fail to convey that there's just no classier place in town than the Aster Cafe. Somehow.
With its beautiful backdrop of the Mississippi river and the Minneapolis skyline, a great menu and (ahem) delightful music, the Aster is the perfect spot for your next date night. I'll be playing there on Saturday, July 16th, sharing the bill with the equally classy Al Church.
Come on over for food, music, ambience, and romance! Maybe you'll even see some cartoonish shenanigans!

I've always dreamed of seeing my name in Rolling Stone magazine, and in a small way, now it's happened! I'm in the track listing for my contribution to a new Donovan tribute LP that's coming out October 16th.
There's a story behind this, of course. Proceeds from sales of the LP will benefit Minneapolis-based Huntington's Hope, which raises scholarship money for children in families dealing with Huntington's Disease. The disease is expensive, deadly, and hereditary, meaning there can be generational lack of opportunity. The scholarships help these kids realize their educational dreams.
So what could be better? You cover a great song in homage of a legendary performer, raise money for a good cause - and get your name in Rolling Stone! Win-win-win!
(PS - the song I covered is called "Superlungs My Supergirl." I'm really happy with how it turned out!)
